Level 60 Destiny Quest

The Mission

Your Destiny Quest giver is sending you to Thunder River for the Phoenix of the East! He wants you to talk to General Tatius first, though.

Important note: If you are not a ranged class (Tempest of Set, Ranger, etc.) you will want a bow or crossbow for this quest before you go any further. Doing melee attacks on the final boss (Har-Shebes) is generally a bad idea.

When you get to Thunder River, it is not hard to find General Tatius inside his tent. He tells you that you must go kill Har-Shebes in the Blood Rite Subterrain, who is located to the northwest and is not too far from you.

Finding A Certain Blood Pool

Once inside the Blood Rite Subterrain, start killing Slaves of Acheron, and Rubicun Fiends wherever you encounter them as you work your way further inside. At the second blood pool you come to, you will see the path going left or right. The path to the left is kind of hidden, but it is there. Go to the right and keep killing.

After killing more mobs, including Animated Canine Carcasses and Ancient Ghouls, you will find a third blood pool. The difference between this one and the others is that this one has bloody hand prints all over the wall behind it. If you do not see the blood hand prints, you are at the wrong blood pool. Make a mental note of the location of this pool, because it is very important.

Boss: Kurbankohl The Cursed

While facing the blood pool marked by hand prints, turn to your left and kill your way up the path until you reach Kurbankohl the Cursed.

You need to make sure that your particles are turned on for this fight.

There is one thing that makes this fight different from your standard "beat on the boss until it dies" fight. During the fight, two spotlights will appear just in front of the cave walls. When these spotlights appear, Kurbankohl will run to one of them and stand in the light, healing himself. You must run and stand in the other spotlight in order to stop him. Once the spotlights vanish, it's back to beating on him... until those spotlights appear again.

Once Kurbankohl is dead, you need to make sure to pick up the key on his body. You are going to need it very shortly.

Getting Through The Gate

Run back down the path to that blood pool with the hand prints behind it. Enter the blood pool and swim underwater through the tunnel. When you resurface, you will find yourself facing a gate.

If you have not killed Kurbankohl at this point, you will need to go back and do so. You will not be able to get beyond this gate without the key he drops. Click the gate to open it and go on through to the other side where another blood pool awaits.

Enter this new blood pool and start swimming underwater for a second time. This underwater tunnel leads you to surface in a blood pool facing your next challenge: Har-Shebes. A cut scene will be triggered.

Boss: Har-Shebes

Before you go any further, make certain that you still have particles turned on. Trying to complete this fight without them is a lot harder to do.

In the very center of this cavern is a stone platform. Har-Shebes stands in the middle of the platform, and circling the platform are Apprentice Minions. When you get close enough to the platform, this fight will begin. You will see two white rings circling the platform above the minions' heads. In addition, one of the minions will have two small glowing orange orbs circling above its head. A closer look at that minion will reveal that the minion has actually grown taller than its brethren. This height difference will last until the orbs move to another minion (and the new minion gets the growth spurt).

Note: Any time you are in this cave and the boss can see you, you will be taking damage. Therefore, in order to keep from dying quickly, it is recommended that you use the pillars of the platform and the blood pool in the room to break line of sight. These two areas are pretty much the only areas the boss cannot see you. There are a couple of spots on the floor, but it is not recommended you use these, as things can change for the worse if you accidentally move from that spot.

Note: If you die at any point doing this final boss fight, you will respawn in the blood pool facing the platform and everything in this one cave will reset. You must then start the fight over again. This happens even if you use a self-ressurection spell such as Spawn or Cheat the Reaper.

At this time you cannot damage Har-Shebes, but he can damage you. Every so often, you will see the orbs choose a new minion. Which minion is chosen is completely random. In order to get to Har-Shebes, you must kill four of these minions. If you simply start killing a minion without paying attention, you will notice that it simply gets right back up seconds after it dies if the orbs are not above its head. That means that you can only permanently kill a minion that has the orbs floating over its head. You can, however, damage these minions that do not have orbs over their heads; this damage will remain until you can kill it properly. Using your ranged attack and using the pillars to break line of sight from the boss, kill four of the minions.

When four of the minions are dead, things change in this fight. The orbs and the white rings vanish. Har-Shebes is also giving you a lot more attention. Watching the platform floor around the boss, you will see nasty spikes that randomly appear in mass quantity. Those spikes were not there while you were killing minions, but they are certainly there now. These spikes will hurt you, and you cannot break line of sight while standing on the platform. Using a ranged attack and stepping into Har-Shebes's sight from behind a pillar, attack him down to 25% health. Keep a very careful eye on your own heath.

When Har-Shebes is at 25% health, the white rings reappear, as do the orbs, and you can no longer damage Har-Shebes. Kill the remaining minions in the same fashion as the first four you killed. Only when the last minion is dead do the white rings disappear for the final time. You can finally kill Har-Shebes at this point. Do so in order to continue onward.

The Phoenix Of The East

When standing in the blood pool and facing the platform, you will notice a cave off to the west (left). Enter that cave in order to retrieve the Phoenix of the East. If you were to enter this cave before Har-Shebes is dead, you would find a spell shield protecting the Phoenix. The death of the boss removes this spell.

Collect the Phoenix of the East from the stone statue in the cave and go back to your Destiny Quest giver to turn in the quest.

Thus ends this quest. Your next Destiny Quest begins at level 80.
