This quest may be obtained by Cang Jei in the Northern Grasslands of Khitai and requires that you place 32 symbols onto stones throughout Khitai. The quest is a three-part one and starts off asking you to locate 32 runes and place them upon the Great Road.
Milestone symbols may be obtained by killing certain mobs or by doing 6-man instances in Khitai. The first part of the three-part quest ends with a reward of a Glowing Rune.
There are a few things that you should know about this quest:
- You may only carry one of each symbol type at a time. In other words, you cannot carry two rat symbols at the same time, for example.
- You do not have to place all of the symbols; you merely have to place one or several of them 32 times total.
- It takes one full hour for a symbol on a milestone to vanish from its placement so that another symbol may be placed upon it.
- If you are in a group, only one person can see a symbol in a bag, and it may not be you.
- A bag that remains open means a symbol (or maybe another quest item) is within for someone in the group.
- Symbol bags can be "held open" for a little over an hour. To do so, look into the bag every ten minutes or so.
Milestone mining might go something like this:
1. Choose an area where you know you can get several different milestones.
2. Group with one other person who needs the milestones quest.
3. Kill all of the mobs in one area that drops symbols.
4. Place an obtained symbol immediately upon acquiring it and always write down the time it was placed.
5. Move on to the next group of mobs to obtain more symbols.
6. The individual that did not get to place the first symbol gets to place his/her symbol first for the new mob group.
7. Continue in this fashion, rotating through the symbols until each of you has placed 32 of them.
